FitzgeraldO’Connor BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: A preoperative prediction of the 360° point insertion depth would aid the planning of electric acoustic stimulation (EAS) implantation. The purpose of this study was to establish whether the distance between the round window and the opposite cochlear wall on CT or MR imaging may be used to predict the length of a cochlear implant electrode array required to be inserted to the 360° point of the basal turn.

Background Cochlear implant surgery is an invasive procedure for patients with bilateral Sensorineural hearing loss and may cause some risks such as cochlear damage. We aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of cochlear measures obtained by computed tomography (CT) scan in predicting depth of cochlear implant insertion. Materials and Methods This study was conducted in a retrospective and cross-se...

Background Cochlear implantation is an approved treatment which can be used to treat severe to profound hearing loss. Imaging before cochlear implant surgery is very important in decision making and assessing the temporal bone anatomy for surgery. We aimed to assess the diagnostic value of high resolution CT scan (HRCT), and MRI of temporal bone in candidate pati...

CONCLUSIONS The present experimental set-up of high spatial resolution cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) showed advantages of demonstrating the critical landmarks of the cochlea in identifying the position of intracochlear electrode contacts and has the potential for clinical application in cochlear implant (CI) surgery. OBJECTIVE To evaluate a newly developed CBCT system in defining CI el...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE Imaging a cochlear implant with CT is challenging because of implant-induced artifacts, anatomic cochlear variations, and lack of standard terminology for cochlear anatomy. The purposes of this project were to determine whether the cochlear implant tip was more accurately located on oblique CT reformations than on standard images, to review radiology reports for accurate ...
